Prominent British promoter Eddie Hearn has commented on the recent news of a possible bout between undisputed world super-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez and WBC World cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu. He noted that “Canelo” is capable of fighting even against the Ukrainian, the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, and will have chances to win.
“Canelo” and his coach Eddie Reynoso want new challenges. They are not interested in ordinary fights. Each of the fights should mean something special to them. Saul wants to be a great boxer and that’s really great for boxing. I think that the fight with Ilunga Makabu is a great option for him, but he could move up and fight with Oleksandr Usyk at heavyweight. Usyk is not a massive heavyweight and “Canelo” would have a good chance in such a fight,” said Hearn.
Note that at the latest WBC (World Boxing Council) convention, which recently took place in Mexico, the Board of Governors unanimously voted for the “Canelo” vs Macabu fight.
