Oleksandr Usyk, the holder of WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles, received an award from the President of Ukraine – the Order of Merit, 1st class.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced the award in celebration of the Independence Day of Ukraine. The official decree was published on the website of the President of Ukraine. Other athletes, actors, journalists were also awarded.
The Order of Merit is a state award of Ukraine, which was established by Presidential Decree No. 870/96 of September 22, 1996. Awarded to citizens for outstanding achievements in the economic, scientific, socio-cultural, military, state, public and other spheres of public activity for the benefit of the state. The holder of such an order is called a Knight of the Order of Merit. Now Oleksandr Usyk is not only a WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion, but also a holder of the Order of Merit.
